Sometimes circumstances are outside our control, but one thing we always have control over is how we REACT to what fate throws at us. In our business of time-critical, freight-forwarding, our plans for journeys across Europe can be disrupted by extreme weather, road closures, major traffic disruption, national holidays and industrial action – to name just a few! What defines us is how we react. We always have multiple options for our clients, so they get the best service possible. We never go quiet and stop communicating – we keep our clients informed with honest updates and estimated arrival times at every stage of the journey. Twist in the tale at awards night

Don’t we scrub up well? We loved getting suited and booted, with posh frocks for the ladies, when we attended the 10th Midlands Family Business Awards at Leicester City’s football stadium. As a team we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to changing circumstances. We used those skills when three places became unexpectedly available on the day of the awards for our colleagues who had drove in from our Poland office the previous day. This meant a last-minute dash, hours before the event, to a menswear hire shop in Eastwood to find three dinner suits. Formal shoes also needed to be sourced to complete the outfits. There was a moment of hilarity when we realised on the night that one of the guys had odd shoes! Fortunately, they weren’t too odd – and there was a right and a left shoe – so he put his best foot forward, as we always do. It gave a whole new meaning to thinking on your feet! New challenges for the Lobina family

We thrive on new challenges at Lobina Transport. Every day finds us sourcing multiple options for customers who need our freight-forwarding services to get precious, time-critical or mission-critical loads to their destination. So when we were offered the chance to try something totally new and challenge ourselves, of course we said yes. Read what happened when mum and son Susanna and Luca, from our family-owned company, made their first-ever visit to Derby’s Velodrome. We know that there’s always more than one way of getting from A to B and we proved it during a recent Friday afternoon with a difference. When we got a call asking us if we fancied a go at track cycling at Derby Velodrome, courtesy of our friends at Derbyshire Institute of Sport and Huub, sponsors of the Huub Wattbike team, we said ‘yes’. Well, Luca, our Organiser of Good Ideas, said ‘yes’ and his mum Susanna, our marketing manager and chief creator of calm, was a little more cautious about what she was letting herself in for, but she agreed to move out of her comfort zone and try something new. We’re a competitive bunch here at Lobina Transport – and we love a challenge. Every day we come to work fired up to find the best options for our clients when it comes to transport solutions across Europe. And we’re competitive during our breaks and our time off too…. as you’ll know if you saw our recent Team HuubWattbike challenge on YouTube. Well done to Niko for winning both the six second and the 30 second competitions. Some of our team still believe they only lost because they were wearing the wrong shoes! But then, we believe you either win or you learn – and we learned a lot that day from Will Perrett. Thanks again to this great Huub Wattbike team member for giving up a rare morning off to help us run the challenge. Champion cyclist steers us to success

Our MD Luigi Lobina says: “If you’re not having fun at work you’re doing something wrong.” We certainly had fun when a champion cyclist joined us for some high energy, high performance exercise in the office. Team members at our Derbyshire headquarters are ALWAYS up for a challenge – and very competitive! – so when Derbyshire Institute of Sport invited us to try the Wattbike challenge, of course we said yes. Putting our team through their paces Lobina are proud sponsors of the Derbyshire Institute of Sport, which in turn supports the members of the Huub Wattbike team. These are the cyclists from Derbyshire who have disrupted the world of track cycling winning world championships, a World Cup, Commonwealth Games medals and national titles. We were very touched when one of the newer members of the team, Will Perrett, gave up the first rest day he’d had in ages to come and put our guys through their pedal power paces at our head office. The static Wattbike is different from other indoor cycling machines because it accurately measures a cyclist’s power output in watts, the unit of power.
